Laboratory informatics capacity for effective antimicrobial resistance surveillance in resource-limited settings

چکیده

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major threat to human health globally. Surveillance key activity determine AMR burden, impacts, and trends monitor effects of interventions. systems require efficient capture onward sharing high-quality laboratory data. Substantial investment being made improve capacity, particularly in low-income middle-income countries (LMICs) with high disease burdens. However, building capacity for effective data management remains an under-resourced area, which, unless addressed, will limit progress towards comprehensive surveillance LMICs. The lack fit-for-purpose open-source information system software particular concern. In this Personal View, we summarise the technical requirements microbiology management, provide snapshot LMIC laboratories, describe steps required situation. Without action technology infrastructure ongoing efforts develop LMICs might not realise their full potential.

Supporting surveillance capacity for antimicrobial resistance: Laboratory capacity strengthening for drug resistant infections

Development of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) threatens our ability to treat common and life threatening infections. Identifying the emergence of AMR requires strengthening of surveillance for AMR, particularly in low and middle-income countries (LMICs) where the burden of infection is highest and health systems are least able to respond. This work aimed, through a combination of desk-based inv...

HIV drug resistance surveillance for prioritizing treatment in resource-limited settings

Modelling A first-order Monte Carlo state-transmission simulation model of HIV natural history and treatment was applied to resource-limited settings. The model, which had already been published (Yazdanpanah et al. 2005 and Sax et al. 2005, see 'Other Publications of Related Interest' for bibliographic details), was developed for a Cote d'Ivoire setting from the US-based Cost-Effectiveness of P...

HIV drug resistance surveillance for prioritizing treatment in resource-limited settings.

BACKGROUND Sentinel testing programs for HIV drug resistance in resource-limited settings can inform policy on antiretroviral therapy (ART) and drug sequencing. OBJECTIVE : To examine the value of resistance surveillance in influencing recommendations toward effective and cost-effective sequencing of ART regimens. METHODS A state-transition model of HIV infection was adapted to simulate cli...

Quality of medical laboratory services in resource-limited settings.

This report endorses the author's own views on the subject after taking up a laboratory adviser mission in Africa. Taking the example of laboratory services practice in sub-Saharan countries, it is shown that diagnosis of diseases which require the use of laboratory suffer from lapses in the quality of case-detection and case-reporting. These services lack management and an information system t...
